The most beautiful thing about wine is that it means a constant dialogue with nature, people – and one another.
Our journey is a chain of conversations with amazing, wonderfully gifted humans and their impact on our works. Because wine is like that – we often only feel its impact later.
Christian Sauska’s paternal great-grandfather, Gedeon Rohonczy, in Törökbecse (today Serbia), introduced the krokan, a grape variety brought from North Africa, from which he began to make wine under this name. At the turn of the century, he grew 120 types of grapes on 100 cadastral plots (cca. 1422 acres).
The first visit of our friend, Californian winemaker Paul Hobbs to Tokaj. “Sticks and stones,” he says, fascinated. “How exciting it would be to try sparkling wine here.”

The first Tokaj dry cuvées meet their audience. The success is overwhelming: our commitment to world varietals Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir is final and irreversible.
We start to collect reserve wines for Sauska non-vintage sparklings in Tokaj.
The beginning of a friendship and cooperation with Lionel Kreff (Baron Family Cooperage, Cognac) continues to this day.
Constantly learning: our new master is Vincent Dupuch, legendary viticulturist of Bordeaux’s right bank.
Our first sparkling wines find a new home in our new aging cellar in Budafok.
New directions in Villány in terms of racking thanks to Jean Michel Laporte (Chateau Talbot, Bordeaux).
First Sauska Cabernet Franc with Siklós Designation of Origin. After decades of viticultural work in Siklós (a subregion of Villány), we celebrate this unique terroir with a new red in our portfolio.
