Syrah / Konkoly
Deep velvety red with purple hues. Leading with intense aromas of black pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon the wine follows with oriental spices. Opening further, the bouquet reveals additional aromas of ripe tart cherries. Intense in the mouth, the wine blends lively acidity with silky tannins as the flavors stretch to dark chocolate, cherry brandy, and black currant-dominated finish. This beautiful wine drinks well young yet will age for a decade.

Our Villány vineyards at the highest elevation are 200-260 m above sea level. The plantations are located behind a hill called Szársomlyó which protects the grape vines from the heat of the midday sun. The air temperature cools down at night, even during the summertime, which helps grapes from losing their acidity and reduces overripening.
After rigorous hand selection, berries are gently crushed and briefly cold soaked in stainless steel tanks. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and small French oak. 30-day total maceration in the tank to preserve the varietal's character. After gentle press aged for 14 months in 40% new and 60% used French oak barrels.
Winter and spring of 2013 were wet and cold - with some heavy snow in April - delaying bud break and flowering by weeks. Blooming occurred in nearly ideal, somewhat cold weather. Early-ripening grapes such as Merlot, Portugieser and Pinot Noir did well result in huge amount, spotless quality fruit. Due to the cold front, late-ripening varietals such as Cabernet Franc and Kékfrankos ripened less evenly. Long Indian summer with mild temperatures and sunny days was an important factor in the ripening process of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. An excellent vintage overall, especially after the dreadful start.
