Villány 2022

Brilliant ruby, with a sweet, intense aroma of homemade jam and syrup, raspberry, cherry, currant, blackberry, and blueberry. On the palate, cherry compote, delicious homemade yogurt, jumpy minerality. Full-bodied yet light, and easy-to-drink, with a long finish and an exciting, refreshing hint of bitterness. This local Villány wine is just unbeatable in its simplicity, builds on the exciting contrast of sweet aromas and dry mouthfeel, which is why so many people love it.

The Year

2022 started as one of the coldest vintages with bud-breaking on April 11. Shockingly, by the end of May the temperature data already predicted one of the warmest vintages! Following the intense temperature rise, shot growth became intense as well. The late warm spring was followed by drier and hot summer days, yet vines continued to grow nicely. Flowering and bonding happened extremely quickly. Due to the high temperature and drought, rioting started in the first days of July. The rainfall supply expected in July was not met, which means that by the end of the summer, a total of only 392 mm of rain fell in the wine region. We started the harvest on August 18 with Rosé bases. With the arrival of September, the temperature moderated, which favored ripening. In the second half of September, only the best of the Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals remained on the vines. The 200 mm of rain that fell at the end of September made the remaining harvest days difficult, but at the end, we finished the harvest in brilliant clear weather. The year brought a positive surprise in terms of quantity and quality because the typical characteristics of dry, warm vintages were not reflected in the quality. Thanks to the cooling in September, the berries remained fresh and wonderfully rich in aroma.
