Vineyards

Padihegy

A land with diverse exposure, our vineyards hugging the mountain from east to west. Rhyolit tuff, geyserite and limnoquarzite mark the terroir with heavy clay content. Due to the delicate quality and unique balance of soil, Padihegy has an instrumental role in our sparkling wine concept with new Chardonnay and Pinot Noir plantations on the horizon.

Winemaking

Grape hand-harvested, carefully selected, soaked for a few hours on the skin, then gently pressed.

Controlled alcoholic fermentation in both tank and barrel, to emphasize primary characteristics of the variety.

Aged for 10 months in new 225-liter French barrels (15%) and used 225-liter French barrels (85%).

Bottled in May 2021.

The Year

After a soft, just periodically chilly winter we experienced a dry, warm spring with timely, mid-April bud-break. From the end of May super heavy rainstorms challenged us for almost two months, luckily with beautiful sunshine which led to quick and early shoot growth. After a balanced August, we were blessed by a warm and dry September. Harvest started with Pinot Noir on the vineyard Hegymeg and ended on Padi with indigenous Hárslevelű. No luck with sweet base wines this year. The good news is that our hardworking sheep families are happy and growing on Medve-vineyard. And major news is that 100% of our vineyards are chemical free so we are one step closer to be a certified organic estate!
