Sauska Chardonnay
2023
Chardonnay has the ability to be elegant and balanced even when it is very young. White peach, nectarine and orangne blossom aromas dominate. Textural palate with a fantastic freshness-backbone and the roundness expected from Chardonnay, even when it is unoaked. Green melon, white pepper and golden pear flavours that are beatifully integrated with the freshness and soft salinity coming from the soils of the Tokaj region. It is hard not to like this unoaked version of Chardonnay!

Vineyards
Grapes for this wine come from our estate grown Padihegy vineyard, where our new winery is located. This vineyard is located just outside the border of the town of Mád in the direction of Rátka. Wines made from this vineyard have a unique softness and freshness.
Winemaking
After hand harvest, the pre-chilled grapes were destemmed, gently crushed, and left to soak with its skins for 6 hours before pressing to extract more pure fruit aromas. The wine fermented and aged in stainless steel for 3 months on its lees before bottling. Un-oaked style.
The Year
Challenging vintage in the vineyard with fantastic results in the cellar. The 2023 year will be remembered as one of the most challenging ones in terms of vineyard management. At the beginning of summer we had a big hail damage that ruined 90% of the grapes in the Padihegy and Istenhegy vineyards. Also -just like in Villány- Peronospora was a big challenge due to the heavier-than-usual rain (600-650 mm). Despite the challenges, the 2023 wines have incredible freshness and vibrancy. Specially good for sparkling and dry wines.
