Cuvée 7 Siklós and Villány from 2009 and the Year.

2009

Big year! But first, hail…

„I arrived in the middle of the harvest and will never forget the energy here! The fun and excitement of picking and fermenting everything separately to find the personality of each vineyard, slopes, plants. We almost went row by row creating our own map of the estate. One night, after a very draining long day I said that I have to go to catch my train back to Pécs. Peter asked me why I don’t move to Villány? Something clicked in my head, went home, packed my stuff and came back the same night. I used to live with colleagues for a while and recently bought a tiny house in Palkonya, the next village. I love it here."

Winemaker Júlia Futó.

The year: What a lovely start we had, with perfectly hydrated plants as a result of the snowy winter! Circulation started early with timely bud break.

But in July, several hail storms killed our beautiful dreams followed by cataclysmic flood making vineyard work impossible.

As it often happens, rain and humidity helped to develop infections we had to fight against, then -finally!- July and August turned out to be pretty and balanced. Long, lazy Indian summer healed our wounds and helped us to push harvest time to reach optimal ripeness.

Cuvée 7  Villány 2009

Blend of Merlot (38%), Cabernet Sauvignon (31%), Cabernet Franc (21%) and Syrah (10%).

Vineyards: Ördögárok, Konkoly and Kopár, loess-clay soil.

Plantations from 2003-2004 (all of them are young grapes).

Tasting notes: Deep purple, elegant and clean, well-integrated aromas with ripe plum, cinnamon, oriental spices and fresh forest leaf blanket. Well-integrated oak, tannins, sweetness and earthiness dominate the mouth feel. Not primarily fruity anymore, pure and bold like a great liquor.

Winemaking:Total maceration in stainless steel tanks. Controlled full malolactic fermentation.

Aged in used (40%) and new (60%) oak barrels for 18 months.

Bottled in 2011.

Cuvée 7  Siklós 2009

Blend of Merlot (34%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Cabernet Franc (33%).

Vineyard: Makár, limestone and sandy loess soil.

Plantations from 2003-2004, young grapes.

Our tasting notes: Deep purple and extremely elegant with intense spiciness, spring flowers, violet and bell flower in the nose.  Bold, thick structure, ripe and fruity, especially blueberry and cranberry. It is quity surprising that a usually lean and aerial Siklós wine shows such a meaty, thick structure.

Winemaking: Total maceration in stainless steel tanks. Controlled full malolactic fermentation.

Aged in used (50%) and new (50%) French oak barrels for 18 months.

Bottled in June, 2011.
