Cuvée 7 Siklós and Villány from 2007 and the Year.

2007

Flying blind

“Probably the most challenging part of starting a new winery is that you fly blind, completing two harvests before actually taste the first years' results. We were extremely passionate from day one to show off the difference between breezy Siklós and devilishly hot Villány. In fact, it is still quite mesmerizing to me that these two wines are so different in aromas, weight, and texture - like literally heaven and earth –while their acidity can exactly be the same.”

Cuvée 7 Villány 2007

The year: Due to the mild spring, our second harvest started with a very early bud-break. The vineyard was ahead by two weeks in June and July, with very even heat surrounding the fruit. August was insanely hot, deepening flavor intensity. Luckily the vineyards remained hydrated enough, life was a walk in the park until the October harvest.

Our tasting notes: Almost black with purple rim. Black cherry, blueberry and licorice dominate the aromas followed by coffee, cacao and forest soil. It is robust, clean and balanced on the palate with silky tannins, tobacco and coffee again. Long and bold leaving some superbly pleasant warm vanilla notes in the mouth.

Blend of Merlot (42%), Cabernet Sauvignon (26%), Cabernet Franc (22%) and Syrah (10%).

Vineyards: Ördögárok, Feketehegy és Kopár, loess-clay soil.

Plantations from 1980 -2004.

Winemaking: Total maceration in stainless steel tanks. Controlled with natural yeast and full malolactic fermentation. Aged in new French-(97%) and American (3%) oak for 18 months.

Unfined and unfiltered. Bottled in May, 2009.

Cuvée 7 Siklós 2007

Our tasting notes: Burgundy red with purple rim. Aromas of violet, leather and red berries dominate the nose followed by clean and balanced earthiness with gamey notes, especially sweet game bird liver. Cool, elegant and long on the palate for a very long time.
