Tokaj 2015

A Lively blend of Furmint (93%) and Yellow Muscat (7%). Shiny gold with tropical-oriental aromas of saffron, lemon zest, mango, and pineapple. Its pronounced mineral backbone is balanced by the lovely Yellow Muscat. The mouth is dominated by candied apricot and white pepper leading to a rich finish.

Vineyards

Medve vineyard

The Medve vineyard is one of our highest located 250-270 m above sea level. The vineyard is surrounded by forests which cools down the climate. The delicate forest floor brings resin notes to the wines. The high magnesium soil content (can also be found in the Rhein region) adds vibrant minerality, bold character and an enjoyable sharpness to the wines. 

Winemaking

Furmint clusters with ideally shriveled and botrytized-berries harvested in whole than picked and separated; 12-hour cold-soak in stainless steel tanks. Indigenous yeast fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aged in stainless steel only.

The Year

After a very hard winter and cold spring mid-April, bud-break was a relief. We got just enough (35-50 mm) rain to get the plants energized. End of May was beautiful with gradual warmup, an optimal temperature at blooming that resulted perfect binding. The temperature remained very high until mid-September with peaks of 39 °C. The heat did not bring any rain causing serious slow-down in the growing process. Grapes for dry wines remained healthy with slightly lower acidity than normal in Tokaj due to the August heat.
