Sauska Tokaj: historical yet functional

In the 1920s, the Citizen`s Casino, located in the center of Tokaj, was one of the most prestigious buildings in the county. The elite citizens gathered here regularly for dinners, balls, charity and holiday events. 

Conditions for membership included a having good morals, a spotless private life and willingness to do volunteer work for the local community.

At the beginning of the 2000s, we expanded this building to make it suitable for the processing of grapes. All three levels of the building exemplify our winemaking technology: the journey of freshly harvesting fruit starts on the top floor and ends up in tanks or barrels of the first floor.

Small (230-500l) stainless steel tanks and barrels keep small quantities separately to show off the beautiful diversity of our vineyards.

Carved into the hillside and under the city`s cobble-stone streets, our old cellar of ancient caves date back to the 16th century. It holds 200 Hungarian and French dried oak barrels.

We take pride in working closely with the best vintners and make decisions based on frequent tastings together. We also monitor and document the barrels development on a weekly basis. Keeping each vineyards'  wines separately is the key to quality winemaking.
